Getting Started:

Navigating Your Binder

Now that your binder is created and organized, we will show you some of the ways that E-Ring Binder allows you to navigate through your binder.

This page will provide an overview of how to:

Navigating to Documents

To instantly jump to one of your documents, you can:

  • Double-click on the document in the Navigation list;

  • Right click on the document in the Navigation list and select “Go to Document”;

  • Click on the document’s entry in the binder’s table of contents.

Searching Your Documents

To search your documents, click the “Search” icon under the “Navigate” tab or press Ctrl+F on your keyboard.

Doing so will create a popup search window.

E-Ring Binder allows you to tailor the scope of your search. You can choose to search:

  • The document currently displayed in the viewer;

  • All documents within your binder;

  • The documents matching the current filters (if any filters are active);

  • The documents within the current tab (if a custom tab is selected).

Creating Filters

E-Ring Binder allows you to filter your documents by name, nickname, and tags. To create a filter, first click on the “Filter Documents” icon under the “Navigate” tab.

When “Filter Documents” is active, the Filter list will appear in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, under the Navigation list.

Clicking on one of the “Filter by [X]” buttons in the filter list will create a popup window where you can select the conditions and values for your filters.

Your active filters will appear in the Filter list in blue. You can edit or remove an active filter by clicking the pen or “X” icon within the filter’s box.

You can also remove all active filters by clicking the corresponding button at the bottom of the Filter list.

See “Filtering Documents” for more information.

Adding Bookmarks

Bookmarks allow you to save a location in one of your documents for quick navigation.

To add a bookmark, simply right click on the location you wish to save and select “Add Bookmark.”

Once you have added a bookmark, an entry for the bookmark will appear in the Navigation list, and a visual indicator for the bookmark will appear in the Document Viewer. Mousing over the visual indicator will display the bookmark’s name.

Bookmarks will be shown in the Navigation list in the order that they appear in the document.

You can navigate to a bookmark by double clicking on the entry in the Navigation list, or by right clicking on the entry and selecting “Go to Bookmark.” Right clicking on a bookmark in the Navigation list also allows you to rename or delete a bookmark.

To show or hide your bookmarks, both in the Navigation list and in the Viewer, you can click the “Show Bookmarks” icon under the “Navigate” tab.

Creating a Keyword Index

E-Ring Binder can automatically comb through your documents for a given word or phrase and compile an index of each document and page that contains that keyword.

To create a keyword index for your binder, click on the “Show Keyword Index” icon under the “Navigate” tab. This will display the Keyword Index on the right side of your screen.

Then enter a term in the text box and press “Submit.” E-Ring binder will search for that term throughout your binder. This search time may vary depending on the size of your binder.

Your keyword index will be included when you save your binder, and will therefore persist across sessions.

An entry for each search term will appear in your index, detailing each document that the term appears in and which pages the term appears on. Clicking on a page number will take you directly to that page.

Keywords will appear in your index in alphabetical order.

You can remove an entry from your keyword index by clicking on the “X” icon next to the entry.
